Portugal could establish comprehensive capacity-building programs targeting SMEs and large energy consumers. Key elements include:
- Awareness Campaigns: Educate technical staff and decision-makers on the benefits of replacing inefficient electric motors, motor system optimization, and available financial incentives.
- Training Workshops: Host seminars to build technical expertise in identifying and implementing energy-saving measures.
- Subsidized Energy Audits: Offer audits at reduced costs or exempt companies from fees to accelerate the identification of energy-saving opportunities, especially in SMEs.
The following feedback was provided by the involved stakeholders:
"The lack of training and awareness-raising activities across the value chain is crucial, particularly for equipment designers and companies assembling machines and motor systems.
These stakeholders play a critical role in influencing end-users' decisions. Energy efficiency campaigns should be relaunched broadly, with a focus on technical training and awareness of energy and non-energy benefits (e.g., economic, environmental and social)."
The manufacturers and their association also expressed the willingness to support technical training programmes covering the entire motor system to drive market transformation.
